What is erbs palsy?

Erb’s palsy is a form of a brachial plexus injury.  The brachial plexus is the name of the set of nerves that run from the spinal cord down the arm, wrist, and hand.  Erb’s palsy occurs when the brachial plexus is stretched too far or too hard, therefore causing weakness in the arm.

Differences between Erbs Palsy and Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a neurological disease, where brachial plexus injuries are in the nerves. While cerebral palsy affects movement throughout the body, the abnormality of this disease is in the brain. All forms of brachial plexus injuries affect the arms, hands, and wrists movements due to brachial plexus nerve complications. Both injuries can be caused by medical malpractice at birth, or they may occur for other reasons in early childhood.  Cerebral palsy does have various levels of severity, but it will never completely be cured.  Erb’s palsy, and other brachial plexus injuries, may disappear on their own over time.  Both injuries can be serious and may require lifelong care.
